Nebraska District LCMS Nebraska District Office
Lay Leadership Training Program

The Board of Directors of the Nebraska District has initiated an educational program designed to foster personal and leadership competencies of laity. The program consists of ten courses and seeks to equip laity on four levels.

Rev. Dr. Marvin Bergman is the coordinator for the Nebraska District Lay Leadership Training Program.  He works with the members interested in one or more of the classes offered through this program.  Dr. Bergman may be contacted at mbergman@cune.edu or call the District Office to visit with his assistant, Kathy.

  • LEVEL ONE focuses on personal growth in faith and life.
  • LEVEL TWO aims to equip laity for ministry such as that of a Pastoral Assistant or in various other areas of ministry.
  • LEVEL THREE involves a male candidate working toward certification as a licensed Deacon as he serves under the supervision of a pastor.
  • LEVEL FOUR entails completing the District’s Lay Leadership Program and entering the DELTO program (Distance Education Leading To Ordination) offered by the seminaries of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

NOTE: (Level Three has been temporarily suspended by the Nebraska District Board of Directors while a special President's Task Force on Concerns and Support with the Lay Leadership Program does a study and provides a report to the president by March of 2004.)

More information on this task force, the work they are doing, and the papers they are studying in preparation for this work are available from the links on the right.

Courses are also offered at Lutheran High Northeast, Norfolk.
