human care ministries (1)

The Nebraska District endeavors to provide a variety of resources and contacts to serve the people in the congregations and communities of our District as they go about their daily lives and work, and as they seek to share the love of Christ with those around them.

Parish Health

Health Ministry works to support and promote Christ-centered health and wellness of body, mind and spirit through congregational health ministries and to promote and encourage Christ-centered health and wellness among LCMS church workers.

Concordia Plan Services and Vitality Wellness

Ministry is a life-long vocation for pastors and teachers, as well as for many lay workers. Through the Concordia Plans, caring congregations, schools, and other special ministry organizations provide workers and their families with excellent comprehensive employee benefits including health, retirement, disability, survivor, and specific resources for ministry. By partnering with Concordia Plan Services, LCMS organizations and church workers have an ally who understands their unique needs and provides necessary benefits and services for all those enrolled.

Operation Barnabas

Operation Barnabas is the LCMS’ network of care to our nation’s military members, families and veterans. They reach out to all branches of the military with a special emphasis on Reserve members and their families.

Churchworker Counseling and Retreats

Churchworkers in the Nebraska District are encouraged to take opportunities to find refreshment and renewal through various retreats and counseling services.

Lutheran Family Services

Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska (LFS) expresses God’s love for all people by providing quality human care services that build and strengthen individual, family and community life. LFS was founded in 1892 when the organization began serving orphans in Fremont and Omaha. Today, the needs of children and families are met through a wide variety of comprehensive programs – including complete adoption services for both birth and adoptive parents, family search services, foster care programs, children’s mental health services, support for young parents, and pregnancy and parenting counseling. In addition, LFS offers affordable, quality immigration legal assistance to refugees, immigrants and asylees. LFS is recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) as a qualified immigration legal service provider. LFS also runs a Refugee Support Program which prioritizes support services to youth and young adults without parents or permanent guardians who have spent an unusually long period under refugee camp conditions; single mothers; elderly refugees without a family support system; refugees experiencing social or psychological conditions, including emotional trauma resulting from war, sexual or gender-based violence; refugees who are HIV-positive; or other populations with physical disabilities or medical conditions; unanticipated arrivals and secondary migrants.

LCMS Life Ministry

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s Life Ministry is devoted to upholding the sanctity of human life, both in our church body and the culture at large. We are actively involved in a variety of domestic and international programs to support and encourage life “in the image of God.”

By supporting women and children through crisis pregnancy centers, providing educational materials and opportunities, reaching out to youth through a Christian chastity program, and working closely with allies such as National Lutherans For Life and the National Pro-Life Religious Council, Life Ministry is carrying the banner that life is sacred.

Lutherans For Life

The mission of Lutherans For Life is to equip Lutherans to be Gospel-motivated voices for Life; to equip Lutherans to be positive, life-affirming voices that uphold the truth of the God-given value of human life both in local congregations and in society; and to present the heart changing truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
