LCMS World Missions

LCMS World Mission is the global Gospel outreach of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, a confessional Lutheran church with more than 6,000 congregations and 2.6 million members in North America. Our global mission focuses on church planting and leadership development in North America and around the world. LCMS World Mission currently works in partnership with national Christians in approximately 40 countries (historically more than 70) and maintains a total global missionary force of approximately 300 (career, volunteer, international educators, spouses and contracted part-time) and a supporting staff of 38 at its headquarters in St. Louis, Mo.

The purpose of LCMS World Mission is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with 100 million unreached or uncommitted people  in collaboration with our North American and worldwide partners by the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.

  • Evangelizing unreached and uncommitted peoples worldwide
  • Reaching out to special-need groups in the United States
  • Developing leaders
  • Working through strategic alliances and partnerships
  • Developing and offering resources
  • Providing guidance for mission strategy
