Rev. Victor Jordening
The Reverend Victor F.G. Jordening, pastor emeritus, Elwood, Nebraska, departed this life on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at the age of 95. He was born in Fairbury, Nebraska, on March 19, 1912, to Henry and Mary (Knoche) Jordening. On June 6, 1937, he married Edna C. Drees. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, in 1936. He served as pastor at the following congregations: Immanuel, Litchfield, and Trinity, Hazard, Nebraska (1937-1941); Trinity, Jansen, Nebraska (1941-1946); Centennial, Superior, Nebraska (1946-1957); Zion, Red Cloud, Nebraska (1946-1947); and Trinity, Lexington, Nebraska (1957-1977). Pastor Jordening also served as Vice President of Southern Nebraska District (1963-1970); on the District Board of Directors (1972-1976); as circuit counselor of Deshler, Arapahoe, and Kearney Circuits; as district LWML counselor; member of Kearney Campus Lutheran Advisory Board and Building Committee (1965-1971); member of Kearney Campus Lutheran Corporation Board (1968-1977); member of District Board of Education; editor of Southern Nebraska District Lutheran Witness Supplement; and member of District Adjudication Commission.
Pastor Jordening retired in 1977 and then served the Mid-South District as Worship Coordinator in Memphis, Tennessee, until April, 1982. After returning to Lexington in 1982, Rev. Jordening served vacancies in Nebraska at McCook, Lowell, Shelton, Ogallala, and Wilcox.
Pastor Jordening is survived by three daughters, Mary (Jack) Norman of Tigard, Oregon; Kathryn (Steve) Neil of Cozad, Nebraska; and Sara of North Platte, Nebraska; three sons, Richard (Diane) of Omaha, Nebraska; David (Sharon) of Germantown, Tennessee; and John (Genice) of Lexington, Nebraska; one sister, Wilma Endorf of Fairbury, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, in 1994, his parents, four brothers, and one sister.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska. Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
