|Rev. Jack Thiesen
The Reverend Jack H. Thiesen, pastor emeritus, Norfolk, Nebraska, departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the age of 76. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 3, 1936, to Hugo and Marie (Maguire) Thiesen. He graduated from the Lutheran High School in St. Louis and then attended Junior College and Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he received his B.A. degree. Pastor Thiesen graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1961 and was ordained on September 3, 1962. Jack married Laura Sullivan on April 23, 1960.
Pastor Thiesen served in the following ministries: as pastor of Trinity, Nevada, and Faith, El Dorado Springs, Missouri (1962-1964); as chaplain at Nevada State Hospital, Nevada, Missouri (1963-1965); as pastor of St. Paul’s, Bridgeport, and Mount Calvary, Bayard, Nebraska (1965-1968); as staff chaplain at Norfolk Regional Center, Norfolk, Nebraska (1968-1982); as an LFSS Counselor, Norfolk (1982-1984); and as assistant pastor, Christ, Norfolk, Nebraska (1987-2001). Jack served many vacancies in the northeast Nebraska area including St. John’s, Madison (Green Garden); Immanuel, Beemer; and St. Paul, West Point. He also taught family life courses at Northeast Nebraska Community College for many years. He was currently serving as an assistant to the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk.
Pastor Thiesen is survived by his wife, Laura Thiesen, Norfolk; one daughter, Teri (Maynard) Thompson; one son, Jack Jr. (Jessica) Thiesen, Plymouth, Michigan; four grandchildren, Jack III, Michal and James Thiesen, and Samuel Thompson; cousins, Carol and Ron Moser, Naples, Florida, and their children, and Cynthia and Gary Hayes, Naples, Florida, and their children; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen Sklar, Susan Mintle, Jean Havel, and Catherine and Gary Sampson; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle Ulrich and aunt Cecilia Thiesen.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, November 1, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the New Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk.
